A New Era – The Next Phase of the International Pairs

The last couple of months have been a huge frustration to golfers and event organizers all around the world. The constant changing of the golf landscape was one of our biggest challenges.

Good news

There reportedly was a growth in memberships and rounds played whenever the opportunity to play was presented. This is extremely positive for all of us at International Pairs as it presents a larger market that we will be able to target.

During worldwide lockdowns, we quickly realized that people spend more time reading emails and engaging on social media than ever before.

This presented us with the opportunity to do comprehensive market research and plan the next phases of the International Pairs.

The Future for International Pairs

You should be aware that International Pairs has a 23-year history. Our goal was to analyze International Pairs’ public image and optimize our brand in line with what players want and expect from us. The feedback has been interesting and has given us the opportunity, based on market research, to visualize a future with exciting innovations and changes that will benefit all role players within the International Pairs framework.

Market research included potential sponsors, licensees and the broader golfing public. Feedback on the market research and innovations to be followed in coming weeks.

Here are some of the outcomes of the survey

The history of the event:

52,7% of People surveyed stated that this plays an important role as it creates a platform of stability, sustainability, and durability.

33,5% said it makes no difference as long as the competition is being played, offering the golfers an opportunity to participate in an international event.

13,8% - Indifferent, does not matter either way.

The marketing team’s recommendation is that we stay with history of the event and drive home the points of stability, sustainability, and durability, whilst building on the theme of making history.

International Pairs Logo:

88,2% of respondents did not recognize the current logo.

82,7% of those surveyed, when studying the logo felt the logo is old, outdated and looked “tired”. It held no real value, and they did not understand the elements of the current logo.

The recommendation is to revamp and modernize the logo with unique individual layers that clearly display the key elements of the International Pairs. It was decided that this will be the initial point of departure.

If you follow us on Facebook and/or LinkedIn as well as Twitter you would have seen the full revealing process of the new logo, over the last few weeks with the full reveal now completed. If you don’t follow us on social media, please do so, to ensure you stay updated with the latest news.

The light at the end of the tunnel: A look back at one of the toughest years in golf!

2020 has been a very tough year in the golfing industry, as we’ve seen the spread of Covid 19 growing wider worldwide with multiple shutdowns and lockdowns. A great amount of stress has been put on golf courses, events, and their staff but it has not all dark days as we’ve seen some of the golfing sectors flourish during the epidemic. Lockdown golfing
Being ‘lockdowned’ most people had more time hands for a few extra hobbies, from DIY activities to exercise regimes and of course more time for golf for the fortunate! We’ve seen an uptake in the game of golf with new players joining the game every day and golfclub memberships increasing, for the more experienced golfers out there, be patient and don’t lose your cool with all the new feet on your course, instead guide, help and advise where you can as we have all been there before, you never know your luck as one day you could be partnered with that player and he/she could carry you through to the International Pairs World Final! Welcome to the family
The International Pairs has also welcomed a few new licensees in the Year 2020 and has been in talks with potential new countries on signing up. We welcomed Northern Ireland, Iceland and Sweden and look forward to hosting the licensees and their players in the World Finals this year. New Ideas and concepts
Covid has caused and forced the golfing industry to adapt and try new things and has been the case when International Pairs launched the Hole 19 International Pairs Digital Challenge. The Digital Challenge gives golfers the opportunity to still play competitive golf without the fear of overcrowding and at the luxury of their own time. In Hole 19 International Pairs Digital Challenge golfers will also play as pairs of 2 in a betterball stableford format, golfers register online for a round, record their scores on the Hole 19 app and is then transferred onto their countries’ leaderboard. The Digital Challenge is currently available in the UK, Germany, Ireland, and Belgium. Any golfer with an official handicap index can sign up online and take part. Windhoek Lager International Pairs South Africa – The road ahead

Over the last couple of weeks, we had a number of questions from clubs and players with regards to the season 5 competition. We understand that these are abnormal times and as such want to assure all concerned that we have put contingency plans in place.
Q1 – What will happen to those players who have already qualified at club level? Answer: All those pairs who have already qualified for Season 5 will still be invited to participate in the regional qualifiers. It will need adjustments to the schedules and at this stage we are planning to have the Regional Qualifying events take place during the month of August.   The Windhoek Lager International Pairs South Africa final is provisionally being scheduled for September 2020. This depends on the status of the country and the rules pertaining to playing golf as decided by the SA Government with regards to Covid-19
Q2 – We were supposed to have our club qualifying events during the lockdown period. How will this work going forward? Answer: The season would originally have ended on 31 May 2020, but it has been decided to extend the season. Clubs will get the opportunity to select new dates for qualifying events until the 31st of July 2020. This will give clubs time to reschedule events, enter for season 5 if they have not already done so as well as giving clubs who have completed qualifying events additional opportunities to host more qualifying events.
Q3 – What happens to the International Pairs World Final? Answer: The 2020 International Pairs World Final is scheduled to take place at Penina Hotel and Golf Resort in the Algarve in Portugal. The dates are confirmed from 15 to 19 November 2020. This is subject to International rules and regulations as set by the WHO and pertaining countries with regards to Covid-19.
Windhoek Lager International Pairs South Africa - Season 5 Contributing to those in need. We are happy to announce that going forward Windhoek Lager International Pairs South Africa, will contribute 10% of the competition entry fee back to the clubs who are hosting qualifying events, to assist those in need at their club. The directors of African Sports Management (ASM), the organizers of the WLIPSA events, had discussions with Windhoek Lager as the headline sponsor, and it was agreed that ASM will donate 10% of all entry fees direct to each club at future qualifying events, during the current season. ASM believes that each club understands the needs of assisting club staff in these difficult times. It is therefore important that each club decides how they will assist those in need at their clubs from these funds. We thank the clubs, players and staff for their loyalty and support over the last 5 seasons. We believe that together we can all make a difference in these difficult and challenging times. Communication with the clubs and players will be continued. Please adhere to the Covid-19 rules during these abnormal times and please stay safe.
